Chris Soucy's never-before-produced play The King in Yellow will be presented at the UAA Arts Building in Winter 2026, dates and space TBD.

It tells the story of a smalltown theatre troupe who is commissioned to bring an ancient script to life. It is based on the 1895 collection of short stories by Robert W. Chambers.

Kalli Randall directs. Carrie Yanagawa designs.

Auditions will be in May, date and space TBD.

There are eight roles available, detailed below. Actors will be involved in mask-work, some dance, and presenting/living inside unspeakable horror.

LEROY: Gaunt man in his 30s-70s. He is a man who wreaks of antiquity. There is a quiet
menace in his inability to connect.

CHARLES: Artistic director in his 40s-50s. Light-hearted and quick with diffusing
humor. A once passionate artist who has rested on one too many laurels.

MICKEY: Stage Manager/Dramaturg 30s. She is an enthusiastic supporter of her friends
and colleagues. She is dedicated to the theater.

SIERRA : Actress in her 20s. Overworked and underappreciated, she tends to assert her
presence meekly. Also plays CONSTANCE, GENEVIEVE,

MIKE: Actor in his 20s-30s. He earnestly wants to put in the best performance while not
being a particularly gifted actor. Also plays LOUIS, BORIS, WATCHMAN

JACKIE: Actress in her 40s. A maternal entity with goodwill to spare. She is often sad
but puts on an optimistic demeanor. Also plays HAWBERK, SCOTT

FIONA: Actress in her 50s-70s. Smart, acerbic, grand dame of the local theater scene.
Also plays WILDE, ALEC, TESSIE

BILL: Actor in his 60s-70s. Bombastic, jovial, happy to be included. Also plays
CASTAIGNE, JACK

 

Christopher Soucy is an Asian-American theater professional with over 30 years of experience in the industry. He is a co-founder of Odd Lot Improv and the Savannah Shakes Theater Company. He has worked as an actor, puppeteer, writer, director, and filmmaker. In addition to his work in the theater, Christopher is a cohost of the podcast MOST HAUNTED CITY IN EARTH. He also owns the Savannah Paranormal Museum with his wife. Christopher is also an army combat veteran and currently resides in Savannah, Georgia.
